Max Goes North

Broome & Cape Leveque

Max & Tripod

On our first night in Broome! Tripod were performing at Diver's Tavern on Cable Beach and we had to see them. Max cacked himself and is now the very happy recipient of an autographed T-Shirt.

Max & Kamali

You will notice our cunning strategy of buyting Max musical instruments so that he does his music practice while he is away from school. In this case, we found Kamali at the Broome markets and he makes a clever instrument called a flute stone which is made of fired clay.

Festival Finale

We caught the last night of the Pearl Festival and watched the fireworks display at the racecourse. Keen observers will notice the full moon in the background.

Camel Beach

Some very attractive camels conveniently placed for a classic Cable Beach photo

Sunset Watchers

Camels were all around us!

Sunset

Very happy with my sunset photos; note the trained boats and bird in the photo....

Moonset

If you get up at 5.30am you too can get this photo of the moon setting in the morning. I was looking for a stairway effect which did not happen but got some great colours all the same.

Moonset #2

Very happy with the colours in this shot, sorry about all the artistic stuff, but someone might like them

Stairway to the moon

Right place, right time, digital camera, 50 photos, bound to get at least one right

Ron & Ann

Invited us to share their vantage point on Town beach to view the stairway to the moon. We met Ron & Ann in the Bubgle Bungles.

Just for Marg

and anyone else who likes beads! A tiny shop in Johnny Chi Lane doing a roaring trade mainly because they have every bead ever invented on their shelves.

More beads

If you can read the labels you can probably order them over the internet.....

Didjeridoo #2

OK, so I learnt how not to buy a didjerdoo in Kalumburu.... However Paul Boon at the Old Broome Lockup showed us what a real didj sounds like and Max is now the proud owner of 2 didjeridoos, one for playing and one for looking at.....

Just for Fluff

Put this on your list of preferred holiday destinations! Cable Beach was nicely decorated most days.....

Sand shadows

Ahhh, the creative genius is really flowing now! The front passenger is Katrina and the bloke at the rear is me.

More shadows

Cable b each makes a very nice canvas at sunset, although I may be the only one who thinks this is an artistic shot?

Greg & Kate & Max & Camels

They did not have any three hump camels. Max's camel was called Seabush and ours was called Jaheel. This is the Red Sun Camel ride, the most photographed on Cable Beach.

Steadycam

It took me a few goes to take a sunset photo whilst riding on a camel

Cape Leveque

And then we get to Cape Leveque where fabulous sunsets are also part of the package

Quiet time

Max & Katrina reading in our beach shelter on our first night at Cape Leveque.

5.45am

Not sure what's got into me; must be the 8.00pm bedtime which enables one to arise at 5.30 for the sunrise over Eastern Beach at Cape Leveque

Cape Leveque

Taken from the beach at low tide. You can see a couple of beach shelters including ours and the Cape Leveque lighthouse

Shell collecting

And many of the shells would walk off by themselves if you put them down.....

Coral hunting

In lots of different shapes, sizes and colours, all available to inspect at low tide

Clammed up

About 40cm across, these babIes populated the rocks which were uncovered by the lowest tides

Ocean views

Well beach shelter then, but a nice view all the same. 30 seconds from bed to ocean, very happy about that....

Hunters Creek

I am becoming a bit of a pandanus fan, and I like the Pindan wattle too, must get a photo of one for you.....

Sponging

Yes, we did leave some for the other vistors to collect. It will take months to get all the sand out of the car. Or perhaps a solid morning at the hands of John Bisset?

Artistic sunrise

Don't know what came over me!

Coral close up

Plenty more where this one came from; feel free to email requests for more artistic coral shots.

Coral hunters

The tide came in a bit quicker than we were expecting.....

Swim o'clock!

But the waves were only up to my waist??

Ensuite shower

Well a shower head in the corner of the beach shelter, very convenient however and toasty warm even after the sun goes down

Rock sitting

Did you know that Gregory has a meaning including "watchful"? There are other meanings starting with "W" too.....

Aaron & Max

These guys dug up half the beach but were eventually defeated by the tide

Camping cut

The lady next door had her hairdressing shingle out and was recouping a significant proportion of her travelling expenses.

Cape sunset

Sunset at Cape Leveque

Mangrove Jack

Mangrove Greg actually

Ghost Crab

We spotted plenty of crabs of all shapes and sizes during our mudcrab hunt with Eddie from the Nagamoon community

Mudcrab Eddie

We found one (well two actually) at last after a very nice work up and down the mangrove tidal flats of Nagamoon

The mudcrab

And it was a big sucker, needless to say we stayed out of the way of those claws.....

Soldier Crabs

Brightly coloured and determined, thses little guys were all through the sand flats.

Another sunset

Katrins, Max & Greg at Cape Leveque

The ensuite

The shower was already nicely decorated when we moved in for our four-night stay, however we did add some touches of our own while we were there.

Ocean views

This is the view over the top of the beach shelters and you can also see a slightly more upmarket cabin at the right of the picture.

Max & Paul jamming

Paul Boon is the bloke to see in Broome if you are looking for a didjeridoo. And can he play them; Max has been inspired, hopefully Mr Vladkoff can fit a didjeridoo player into the high school band next year!
