December 23 - New
Flat-Rate ADSL Intenet plans from Internode
Internode continues to demonstrate the benefits of not locking
yourself in to long term broadband internet contracts; they have
just announced new "all-you-can-eat" flat-rate plans where there
are no megabyte or time limits from under $80.00 per month.
They can do this through the clever use of new software which
calculates your usage and gives priority to those who have used
the service the least amount in recent weeks. So if no-one
else is using it you get full speed and as much data as you can
handle! Quite a remarkable offer and just right for you
download junkies!

December 19 - Toshiba releases new
portable data projectors

December 18 -
Download Windows Media Player 9.0 for free!
OK, so it's not quite free; you may use an hour or so of
internet time, but otherwise it is free. Windows Media
Player is the program which plays your music CDs and which you can
use to create your own music compilations. The new version
is even more user friendly than before and has some really cool
features like the ability to add lyrics to the music tracks stored
on your computer.
Browse to Microsoft to download Media Player 9.0; there are
different versions available depending on your operating system. |
December 18 - Western Digital hard disk
drives now at 200 gigabytes
If you want big and fast, the new monster hard disk
drives from Western Digital are for you. There is also a 180
gigabyte model but who cares! It is hard to imagine how you
could ever find enough data to fill a 200 gigabyte drive, however
Steve Woolcock tells me that is barely enough space for 40
downloaded DVD movies!! However you do have enough space for
around 50,000 music files or 200,000 digital photos or 100,000,000
(yes, 100 million) pages of text! Browse to our
hard disk drive page for the full
range. |
December 12 - Watch
out for last year's computer offers!
If you shop around you won't get caught, but watch out for
"Christmas Specials" which are based on very ordinary computer
configurations. We suggest you choose a processor speed
around 2000, 256 megabytes of high speed DDR RAM and a good size
hard disk drive. As always, today's "special" pricing is
tomorrow's normal pricing in the computer game! |
December 8 - Scanner
competition winner is ..... Phil Dansie!
Right, that's it Phil, you can't enter any more competitions,
our customers will think we rig them at this rate! At the
draw there was a suggestion for a re-draw because no-one should
win two prizes in one month! Well done again Phil!
Stay tuned for the next competition. |
December 2 - On the
Spot Mobile Detailing Service
OK, so this has nothing to do with computers, however Lincoln
Computer Centre is proud to be associated with this new business
venture owned by John & Glenys Bisset, and we are pleased to have
been chosen to supply their new computer equipment and software.
If you would like your car cleaned professionally, browse to
www.portlincoln.net/onthespot and check out what they
offer. Actually, to see if anyone is actually reading this,
the first person to spot this offer and
email Greg will receive a free Web Page Special
car valet service and full engine bay detail valued at $55.00!
Less than
one day, I cannot believe it!! Well done Phil Dansie from PA
Dansie & Associates; if you need anything surveyed,
email Phil |
November 29 - New
Winevar computer virus deletes data files
Bugbear has been just plain annoying, but the new Winevar
virus can delete data files from your computer. It takes
advantage of security flaws in Microsoft software so if your
Windows Updates are completely
up to date and your anti-virus software is current then you are
unlikely to be affected. We have not yet seen this virus in
our marketplace yet. |
November 26 - Toshiba releases 2000
megahertz notebook computer
This is a fantastic new model from Toshiba and is a
shade under $5,000.00. It has everything; 15" screen,
combination DVD-ROM drive and CD burner, 60 gigabyte hard disk
drive, major 3D video card capability and 256mb of fast DDR RAM.

This is only three hundred dollars more than a regular 17" CRT
screen and is now a very affordable add-on for your new or
existing computer system. Check out our full range of

November 22 - Canon announces new digital
camera models
You may have noticed the proliferation of brochures in
your letterbox and newspapers recently; the choice of digital
cameras is now amazing with new models from one manufacturer or
another being announced every month. There are some key
features to look out for when buying a digital camera, so make
sure you do your homework. Browse to our

November 15 - Hard
Disk Drives Are Going Down Like Flies
OK, so perhaps that is a bit alarmist, but it is hard to get the
attention of someone regarding data backup unless their hard disk
drive has recently suffered a catastrophic failure. World
manufacturer Fujitsu is in the press at the moment because of the
distressingly high failure rate of it's MPG series of hard disk
drives supplied throughout the world in 2001. They haven't
issued a recall yet, but by crikey they should! There is
even a
class action being undertaken in America to sue Fujitsu.
We sold a number of systems in 2001 with these hard disk drives in
them and have indeed replaced a number of them already under
warranty. if you are concerned, keep your backups up to date
and contact us using the information at the bottom of this page.
Here are a couple of interesting articles; one by the
Enquirer and one by the
Register in Britain. |
November 12 - New laser printers from
Hewlett Packard
Hewlett Packard has just released some of the fastest laser
printers we have seen; would you believe 45 pages per minute from
your laser printer. And they have also announced a brilliant
new colour laser printer for under $3,000.00.
Check out our range of laser
printers. |
November 8 - New Tablet PC from Toshiba
If you were wondering what the next big thing was in portable
computer design, this is it. The Toshiba Portegé 3500 Tablet
PC combines the features of a handheld PDA (Personal Digital
Assistant) with (most of) a notebook computer. The reason I
say "most of" is because the notebook features a relatively small
screen (12") and you will need to buy an external floppy drive,
CD-ROM drive or burner to get stuff on or off the computer!
It does have a network card and modem and is therefore designed
for connectivity. Download a
PDF brochure for more info. And the price? From
$4,895.00 inc GST. |
November 6 - New Toshiba Notebook Computer
Toshiba has just announced the Toshiba
Satellite 1410 notebook computer, a worthy successor to the
popular 1400 and 1800 models we have sold this year. This
new model has a faster processor and more memory, and retains the
all-in-one design with built-in network card and modem.
Priced from $2,675.00 inc GST |
November 5 - Domain
Name Scams are still with us
There are still a number of companies operating in the domain
names marketplace without the blessing of the industry regulators.
Here is an
article about one of the companies called Domain Names
Australia. |
November 1 - Canon
Releases Some Great New Camera Models
Browse to our Canon Digital Camera
price page for all of the latest models and new pricing. The
new Digital IXUS V3 in particular is a ripper; still a very
compact design but now with 3 megapixel resolution. |
October 30 - LCD Flat
Screen Pricing Plummets
OK, so 'plummets' may be a bit strong, however there have been
some remarkable price drops in the marketplace and Philips are
leading the way. The 17" LCD flat screen is particularly
good value. At this rate, it is likely that LCD screens
will be standard fare on computers by this time next year.
Check out our current Philips
pricing. |
October
13 - The
BugBear Virus
If they were giving out prizes for "best virus", BugBear would be
a clear winner at the moment. If your anti-virus software or
your operating system does not have all the latest updates
installed you are very likely to see this virus. BugBear is
like Klez, it can extract email addresses from web sites and email
software and randomly insert them into the From and To
fields in the emails it sends. So your best friend may not
have sent you the BugBear virus after all! Browse to
Symantec for information about the
BugBear virus. And here's an
interesting article about BugBear. |
September 3 - The Klez Virus
If you've got a computer with an internet connection, chances are
you've been sent the Klez Virus, also known as the Klez Worm.
Here's an
interesting article by PC World which describes the
phenomenon. Or browse to
Symantec for all the technical details on this and the other
61,999 known viruses in the world! |

August 29
- Uninterruptible Power Supplies
Just the briefest of power
fluctuations today, I believe the technical term is a "brown-out"
where the lights flicker and the power only goes off a for a
second or so, but just enough to stuff up that bank reconciliation
you were doing or that letter to dad for Fathers Day you had been
slaving over for an hour or more but hadn't quite saved!
Notebook computer owners would hardly have blinked (I didn't!)
because a notebook computer has internal batteries which
take over when the power supply is disconnected, or fails.
And people who already have uninterruptible power supplies
connected to their computers would have felt their investment was
well worth it. If the data loss caused through power outages
bothers you a little, or a lot, have a look at the range of
uninterruptible power supplies we offer and be ready for the next
time where you can say "what power failure?" |

July 31 - ADSL Over
Fibre Optic.....Not!
Can you believe it;
the latest and greatest internet access technology is designed to
run over existing copper wire (good!) but does not work if your
telephone is linked to the exchange via fibre optic cable (bad!).
Strange but true. It's not that surprising to learn that
broadband internet technology like ADSL (Asymmetric Digital
Subscriber Line) is slow to come to regional areas, and it is good
news that it is available in Port Lincoln already (albeit within
3˝ km of the exchange), but it would seem somewhat ironic
that this high speed connection does not work over fibre optic
wires. If you live at the Lincoln Cove Marina, it is quite
likely that your telephone line is connected to the fibre optic
backbone, so if you want an ADSL internet connection, you will
need to ask Telstra to provide the necessary copper wire.
Good luck! |

June 25 -
Domain Name Scams
If you own a domain name, for example
www.lcc.com.au, you will no
doubt be aware that it must be renewed every two years if you wish
to retain it. There are a some companies who are sending
misleading (at best) renewal notices, sometimes offering longer
than the official two year renewal term. You should be aware
of the date your domain name is due for renewal, and ensure that
the contact details for your domain name are up to date so that
you will be notified correctly regarding the renewal of your
domain name. Browse to
auDA for the official word on domain
name scams. We offer a number of support services relating
to the issuing and renewal of domain names, just
email us or give us
a call on 8682 1666 for more information.
