The short answer is $140.00 every
two years (or thereabouts) for a domain name in the .au
domain, but as with most things internet there is a bit more to it,
as described below.
Your internet domain name
works much the same way as your business name; you pay for the
initial registration and then pay a renewal fee every two years.
The cost depends on which of the authorised domain name registrars
you choose; we recommend Melbourne IT who charge $140.00 every two
years to maintain your domain name.
Keep in mind this is
just the registration fee; it entitles you to nothing else other
than the right to use the name. You will still have to choose
an email and/or web hosting provider (at additional cost) to
actually use your own domain name! If you are talking to a web
designer about creating a web page for your business, it is likely
that your web designer will also organise your domain name
registration.
Please Note: Some
domain names are renewable for longer than two-years, however in the
.au domain, anyone offering longer than two year renewals is
acting outside of the official guidelines and is generally to be
avoided.
