ADSL Routers &
Modems and
modem routers! |
|
If you have an ADSL high
speed internet connection, you need at least an ADSL modem to
connect your computer to the telephone line. For a single PC,
you can install an ADSL to USB modem, however if you wish to share
the internet connection to a number of computers in a network you
will need an ADSL to Ethernet modem plus a standard ADSL router, or
you may prefer to install a combination device known as an ADSL
Modem Router. Routers also provide internet security features
such as firewall and content filtering.

Netgear DG632AU ADSL Modem
including free line filter
This product has both Ethernet & USB connections which makes it very
versatile. There are lower cost USB-only ADSL modems available
but they usually do not have the ability to connect to an ADSL
router (later) and therefore share the ADSL connection to more than
one computer. |

Netgear DG834AU ADSL Modem Internet Gateway
This
device is the ideal starting point for a small business or home ADSL
connection where more than one computer requires access to the
internet. Each computer will need a 10/100 network card
installed. One bonus of this device is that it can provide
network capability to up to 4 workstations, and can be expanded by
adding a low cost network switch with additional ports. |

A
word from Greg ... |

|
If you are planning to connect a single computer to ADSL, the
choice of ADSL modem is not particularly important, however if you
plan to share your ADSL connection to a number of networked
computers, then more careful consideration will be required.
