Sound Cards
The standard sound card supplied with most new computer systems delivers good quality sound if matched with a decent set of speakers, and you can easily connect a basic sub-woofer system to your computer and improve the sound significantly.  If you want to take advantage of the vast array of surround sound speakers on the market today, you may need to upgrade your sound card

A word from Greg ...

With recent model computers, the sound card is usually incorporated on the motherboard, so you won't be able to take out the existing sound card when you fit your new card.  Even if you attach an external sound card like the SoundBlaster Extigy, you may still have to disable the internal sound card.  Check with your computer supplier, or refer to the motherboard manual which came with your computer to work out how to disable the on-board sound.
